For it is the God who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
2Cor. 4:6
Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and we will be satisfied.” Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you all this time, Philip, and you still do not know me? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own; but the Father who dwells in me does his works.
John 14:8-10
Provisional Requirements / Commitments for a Christian Hermeneutic
Christocentric (Christ Centered): If it doesn't match who I know Christ to be, it isn't True God. Period. (experience/reason)
Pneumatologically Focused: Who I know Christ to be is mediated to me by the Holy Spirit (experience, with a major footnote)
Ecclesiological: The Holy Spirit entrusted the Church, not individuals, with the truth and the Church enshrined it into scripture (tradition/scripture cannot be divorced or ranked)
Humble: Who I know Christ to be must mesh with who the Church knows Christ to be, which must constantly be checked against who the Church has known Christ to be (tradition, scripture, communal)
